Far from the madding crowd, it is The Other Side
OUR STORY
This side of the mountains is different.
Most people visit Manali and see it from a hotel window — mountains framed in glass, valley obscured by traffic. The Other Side was built for a different kind of traveller. One who wakes up to birdsong instead of an alarm, who walks among apple blossoms instead of queuing for cable cars, who would rather sit with a cup of chai under a plum tree than check into another resort.
Nestled in the Kullu-Manali valley on 2.5 acres of private orchard land, The Other Side is a small estate with two distinct stays — a 2-bedroom cottage for families and groups, and an intimate stone-and-wood room for couples and solo wanderers. The land belongs to the hills. You’re just fortunate enough to visit.

The estate through the year
Four seasons. Four reasons to visit.
November – January The Peak Season
November to January is the most popular time to visit. The peaks are snow-capped, the air is crisp, and the estate takes on a magical quiet that's hard to find anywhere else. Many guests come specifically to celebrate Christmas and New Year's here — bonfires, mountain views, and a warmth inside that makes the cold outside feel like part of the experience.
March – May The blossom season
Spring is when the estate announces itself. The plum trees blossom first — a quiet explosion of white and pale pink that covers the paths and drifts on the morning air.
June – August The Green season
While the rest of India swelters, the Kullu valley stays mild and green. The apple trees are in full canopy by June — dense, shady, and alive with birdsong. Summer is the most popular season for a reason
September – October The harvest season
Autumn is the estate at its most alive. The apples ripen and hang heavy from the branches — deep red, streaked gold — and the light in the valley turns the colour of warm honey from mid-afternoon onwards.

What Our Customers Says

Nidhi Verma
We came expecting a nice cottage. We stayed longer than planned. The orchard, the silence, the mountains just sitting there every morning — it changes something in you. Shivanjali thought of everything.

Anurag Mittal
Host has opened her family's orchard estate as a place for people who need to slow down. She responds to every message personally, within the hour, every day. The property also comes with two residents: Duke, a German Shepherd, and Cooper, a Beagle

Priya Rathore
"We booked the cottage for four days and ended up extending by two more. The orchard at sunrise — with mist still sitting in the valley below — is the kind of thing you don't forget. Shivanjali thought of everything before we even thought to ask. The breakfast alone made the trip."

Rahul & Family
"We booked both the cottage and the stone & wood room for a family trip of nine. It worked perfectly — the adults had their space and the kids had the entire orchard to run around in. The bonfire on the second evening, with the peaks visible in the dark, is a memory we'll be talking about for years."

Frequently Asked Question
1. Can both the cottage and the stone & wood room be booked together for a larger group?
Yes — and it works beautifully. The two stays sit on the same 2.5-acre estate, so families or friend groups who want their own sleeping space but a shared outdoor experience often book both together. The cottage sleeps up to 6 and the stone & wood room sleeps up to 4, giving you a combined capacity of 10. Just reach out to us before booking so we can coordinate your arrival and make sure the bonfire is ready for everyone.
2. What does breakfast actually look like — and is it included every day?
Breakfast is included with every stay, every morning — not just the first day. We serve a fresh, home-cooked breakfast in the Pahadi style: warm paranthas, local achaar, eggs, chai, and seasonal fruit from the orchard when available. It’s the kind of breakfast that sets the tone for a slow day. For other meals, we’re happy to recommend Thakali Restaurant (10 minutes away, excellent Nepalese and local food), CatHouse, or the very popular Jitters Café nearby.
3. What is the best time of year to visit the property?
Every season at The Other Side has its own character — but they’re not all equal.
November to January is peak season, and for good reason. The Himalayan peaks turn white, the estate settles into a deep quiet, and there’s something genuinely magical about celebrating Christmas or New Year’s here — bonfire lit, mountains visible, nowhere else you’d rather be.
4. Are pets allowed? We noticed Duke and Cooper on the property.
Duke (German Shepherd) and Cooper (Beagle) are full-time residents of the estate — friendly, well-behaved, and very opinionated about who gets the best spot near the bonfire. If you’re bringing your own pet, please let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly and make sure everyone gets along. We want both the two-legged and four-legged guests to have a good stay.
5. How do I get to the property?
Getting here is straightforward — here’s how most guests arrive:
By road — You can drive directly to the property. Free parking is available on the estate.
By Volvo — Overnight Volvo buses are available from most major cities.
Local conveyance — Cabs and auto-rickshaws are easily available from nearby towns to the property. We’ll share a precise Google Maps pin after booking so your driver gets you here without any confusion.
